The drag system can apply as much as 25-pounds of pressure to the spool. Saltist is very good reels, but you got to replace the drag washers with Carbonex drag washers. On the other hand, Torium has exact same drag washers as Trinidad has and you can use Torium out of box. I used Saltist 40 and Torium 30 for tuna jigging and caught many tuna on those reels. The problem of Torium was the week anti-reverse prawl.

It isn't really a fair comparison, because the new Saltist has some upgrades compared to the original, but I prefer my current BG reels over the first gen Saltist. The biggest difference to me is the screw-in handle on the BG vs the hex shaft handle on the old Saltist. Remove and line up the main gear (key #34) and all the drag washers. leave the anti-reverse ratchet (key #31) and the anti-reverse pawl (key #32) in place. if they come off when you remove the main gear, make sure the pawl "grabs" the ratchet and does not just sit underneath it.
